Commitment / Management Approach

Following the strategy of "Creating engagement in adaptation and implementing operations that reduce environmental impact," in 2024, the Company launched the "Low Carbon Skies by Bangkok Airways" campaign to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from business operations across all systems, particularly in-flight operations (airline operations), which represents the largest proportion of carbon dioxide generation. This initiative aligns with the global aviation industry's commitment and target to achieve "Net Zero Carbon Emissions 2050".

The Company conducted a trial using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on a pilot flight from Samui to Bangkok to demonstrate its commitment to supporting clean energy fuel usage and reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. This initiative aligns with global efforts across all sectors targeting net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 (Net Zero Carbon Emissions 2050) and complies with measures established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The SAF refueling for the Company's pilot flight resulted in a CO2 emission reduction of approximately 1,346 kilograms.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel – SAF

The Company has conducted research and prepared for the implementation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a new technology for producing alternative aviation fuel from biomass that can substitute for currently used Jet-A or Jet-A1 aviation fuel. SAF maintains the same chemical characteristic standards, eliminating the need for additional aircraft engine modifications to utilize sustainable aviation fuel.

Currently, the Company closely monitors the progress of practical guidelines for considering sustainable aviation fuel implementation from government policies and the readiness of aviation fuel service providers. It is anticipated that Thailand will begin using sustainable aviation fuel at a 1% proportion by 2026. The Company is in the preparation phase to implement measures and policies for international sustainability cooperation moving forward.

Carbon Footprint for Organization (Scope 1-3)

Beneficial Waste Separation Project

The Company is committed to reducing general waste sent to landfills through the development of internal waste management processes, including enhancing waste separation efficiency and increasing recycling/upcycling rates. In 2024, waste separated for recycling was collected from the Head Office building, Bangkok Airways Operations Complex (BAOC), office buildings, and passenger lounges at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Samui Airport, Sukhothai Airport, Trat Airport, and Bangkok Airways Catering (In-flight waste), categorized as follows:

Paper Plastic Aluminum Glass Steel
28,742.10 kg 33,756.65 kg 7,549.30 kg 5,096.00 kg 788.00 kg

Note: Waste separation for recycling helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 269,623.97 kilograms of CO2 equivalent.

In-Flight Waste Management

The Company operates an in-flight food and beverage service using hot meal sets and has developed an efficient flight waste management plan through proper disposal methods that increase recycling rates and reduce waste sent to landfills. The summary of waste separated and sent for recycling in 2024 is as follows:

  1. Food tray paper liners: 19,673.50 kilograms
  2. Food wrapping foil and aluminum food containers: 6,807.50 kilograms
  3. Label-free drinking water bottles: 18,392.50 kilograms

Among these, 3,554.25 kilograms of label-free drinking water bottles, representing over 236,950 bottles, were sent to Circular World Co., Ltd. to be converted into recycled fiber from plastic bottles. Part of this material was used to produce 3,000 polo shirts for employees, 3,000 employee ID lanyards, and 600 Blue Volunteers shirts for volunteer staff participating in social and environmental activities. All these products helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,051.62 kilograms of CO2 equivalent.

Recycling / Upcycling of Business Operational Waste

The Company collects unused uniforms bearing the Company's logo from employees and processes them through upcycling to develop new products that generate no waste in accordance with circular economy principles and can be repurposed in business processes. This initiative has been operating continuously since 2023.

In 2024, over 1,500 pieces of uniforms were processed to produce Company souvenirs, resulting in a reduction of 1,464 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions, 48,200 liters of water savings, and 8,700 kilowatt-hours of energy conservation.

Waste Management at Bangkok Airways Boutique Series 2024

The Company promoted sports tourism through the "Bangkok Airways Boutique Series 2024" running competition held in Samui, Chiang Mai, and Sukhothai. Continuing the 2023 concept, the Company collaborated with leading fashion designer Asava to create limited edition running shirts inspired by the unique beauty of all three venues, reflected through the brand's signature patterns. Beyond aesthetics and comfort, these shirts demonstrate environmental consciousness through manufacturing processes using textile technology from recycled plastic fiber from PET bottles, enabling participants to help reduce plastic waste. Memorial medal lanyards and fabric bags were also produced from recycled PET plastic fiber, while competition medals were manufactured from electronic waste.

The events utilized biodegradable materials for food containers, including paper plates and paper cups, to minimize plastic waste. Appropriate waste separation stations with biodegradable paper bins were provided throughout the venues. Overall, the three running events (Samui, Chiang Mai, and Sukhothai) contributed to greenhouse gas reduction of 9,545.69 kilograms of CO2 equivalent.

Promoting Awareness of Efficient Resource Utilization

The Company created campaign signage for efficient resource usage, such as electricity consumption, water usage, and paper usage, to engage employees and raise environmental awareness through everyday practices. Additionally, the ESG PG Heroes team, selected from employees who demonstrate strong communication skills and interest in ESG topics within the organization, participates in campaigns through short video clips.
