Turning Trash into Treasure : Bangkok Airways Champions the Circular Economy with Organic Fertilizer Giveaway on World Environment Day

5 June 2025 – Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited has launched the activity “Organic Fertilizer from Food Waste… Turning Trash into Treasure to Revive the Earth” on World Environment Day at Suvarnabhumi Airport. This initiative is part of the “Low Carbon Skies by Bangkok Airways” campaign, which aims to reduce carbon emissions from the company’s operations. The airline has begun producing and distributing organic fertilizer made from food waste to passengers and members of the public at check-in counters, passenger lounges at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and in areas near its headquarters on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. The initiative seeks to raise awareness about sustainable waste management and promote the principles of a circular economy.
The organic fertilizer is produced by collecting leftover food from passenger services in the airline’s Boutique Lounge and Blue Ribbon Club Lounge at Suvarnabhumi Airport, as well as from its headquarters building. The food waste is processed using composting machines installed by the company, transforming organic waste into valuable resources. This helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and contributes to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
The process converts food waste into 100% concentrated organic fertilizer, enriched with nutrients that meet NPK (Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium) standards. On average, approximately 40 kilograms of food waste can be processed each month to produce around 4 kilograms of fertilizer, potentially reducing more than 12 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per month. The organic fertilizer will continue to be made available to interested passengers and the general public at the passenger lounges at Suvarnabhumi Airport and the company’s headquarters on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.
Bangkok Airways hopes this activity will serve as a small but meaningful spark to inspire everyone to recognize the importance of reducing waste at its source and to encourage more efficient resource use. The company firmly believes that collective cooperation is essential to achieving long-term environmental sustainability and remains committed to continuing its environmentally friendly initiatives into the future.
